I opened up the umbrella, only to see that it was broken... Well, not really broken, but crooked. It would keep the rain off me in the end, but the spine thingies were all bent, and it looked stupid as all hell. It had definitely seen better days, probably better centuries. At least it wasn't pink ? that would have been the last straw, really. Red was a little more... flashy... than I would have preferred, but it wasn't girly pink like the one that had been sitting next to this one. (Of course, that one probably wasn't all bent up, too). Still... it would do, and that was enough for me.

Crooked umbrella propped up over my head, I stepped out into the rain.

Minutes later, the rain stopped and I dropped the umbrella. It had gotten dark when I wasn't paying attention, and when I looked up to try and figure out if it would rain again, I saw a small, dark figure circling overhead. It didn't look like an owl... not the right shape, and I couldn't think of any other birds that would be flying in the nighttime like that. I squinted a little to try and make out the shape better, and I noticed that its wings looked leathery, the body furry. A bat, it seemed.

The girl to my right... was really flexible. I could barely get my feet up on top of my knees properly, but she could get her foot behind her head. It was kinda hypnotizing... until I realized that her feet were pretty gross. I mean, I'm not saying that my feet are pretty, but she had these thick yellow toenails that were all cracked. It was not a pretty sight.
