Shattered Soul

Okay, to start this out, the first character of this story ever created was not the main character, which is pretty unusual for one of my stories. Kelly existed first... Her first incarnation was as my character in my friend Mark's Mage game... She's changed quite a bit since then...since I discovered I'm not terribly fond of Mage. But, most of her (too complicated) history is the same, and that's most of what makes Kelly the person she is.

Now, I can start with my description of the story... Tristan is not all there. He is insane, and he's quite aware of this fact, as are his family, and the university he's attending (and most of the students there as well, which he doesn't like). He does a fairly good job of acting sane, though, so he gets to be out and about, something which makes him very happy. All he really wants is to be loved, though a friend or two wouldn't hurt as well.

Kelly, on the other hand, is not insane. Well, kinda... She's just a girl who was unfortunately born in a male body, that's all. She's also suffering from being in government custody (why, she won't explain just yet), and they're forcing her to act her physical gender. Like Tristan, she's a freshman in college. She's also Tristan's next door neighbor, and his only friend, at first.

Now, just to say something... Yes, calling Kelly "she" is kinda misleading. Just as Tristan states in Chapter 1, Kelly is, and always will be, physically male. Still, I cannot help but think of her as a female while I write her, and Tristan thinks much the same (though not at the beginning). Of course, since the story is first person, from Tristan's perspective after he starts thinking of Kelly as "she," Kelly will always be referred to as she in the story.
