Bet followed me. She probably had Ian, and then Kev, trailing right behind her, but she was the one who knocked on my door. She was also the one who talked to me. I didn't want to talk to her, but she just wouldn't go away.
"Ana, please," she said. "What's wrong? I was just telling Ian how we were looking for Kev's brother. And then you came over…"
"Just get him away from here," I shouted through the door. "I don't want to talk to him right now, and preferably not later either."
"What about Kev?" she asked. "You said you'd help him. You can't just leave him to me!"
"Let Ian help him!" I yelled. "He should be able to help him just as well as I could, maybe better. Now just leave me alone."
I thought she was going to say something else, but she didn't. Then I heard her walking away, but I could tell someone was still outside my door. I looked through the peephole. It was Ian, and he didn't look like he was going anywhere anytime soon.
"I said go away," I told him, opening the door because it wouldn't stop him anyway. "I don't want to talk to you right now."
"It's been a long time Ana-la," he said, ignoring my demands for him to leave. "I missed you…"
"Well I remembered you far too well," I said shrewishly. "Now, if you don't mind…"
"Yes, actually I do mind," he said, pushing the door open as I tried to close it in his face. Then he softened, and he smiled at me in the way he always used to. "I really wanted to see you all this time. I missed you so much."
"Oh, sure," I said sarcastically. "But just when you weren't hating me, right?"
"Hating you?" he asked. "Why would I hate you? You were, and still are, the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. I just wish I hadn't hurt you so badly."
"You, hurt me?" I asked, laughing. "You didn't hurt me at all. I'm the one who did the worst. I should have waited for you, but I just couldn't. I'm sorry I guess."
"You don't need to apologize to me," he said. "It was my fault for not coming back. I could have gotten away, but I didn't want to risk it. Ana, I'm sorry."
"You mean you don't hate me for leaving?" I asked. He shook his head, and then he lowered it sheepishly.
"I thought you hated me for not coming back…" he said slowly. "Are you saying that you don't?"
I laughed, and he looked up at me curiously. Still laughing, I threw my arms around him and kissed him full on the lips, something I hadn't done in far far too long. It didn't take him long to start kissing me back, and by the time we were done we had gone far beyond where humans would have broken off for breath. It felt wonderful, and I realized just how much I had missed him in that moment.
"Does that answer your question?" I asked him. "I missed you so much. I'm so sorry I threw that tantrum earlier. Where did Bet and Kev go?"
"I told them to go back to the lounge," he said. "And that I'd catch up later, hopefully with you. Who is he anyway?"
"I don't know," I said. "But he's looking for his brother, and he's never met him before."
"I didn't think there were any others here," he said. "But then I saw you, so maybe there's another. Shall we go?"
I nodded, and we headed down to the lounge. We found Bet with Kev, and she looked to be having a hard time. Kev wanted to play, but she didn't have anything for him to play with, and I had told him not to make anything. Luckily I had, otherwise Bet probably would have fainted.
"Oneesan!" Kev exclaimed, seeing me come in. "You came back! Who's the oniisan?"
I was about to answer him and introduce Ian when his last word started to burn itself into my brain and I had a realization. Earlier I had thought he looked familiar, and now that he was standing next to Ian, I realized just how familiar he looked. To be honest, he looked just like a miniature, green, copy of Ian.
Meanwhile Bet was staring at me curiously. She had never seen me act as irrationally before as I had been recently. She must have been very confused, especially now that I had shown up again downstairs, hand in hand with Ian. She started asking me questions, but I ignored them.
"Ian," I asked, with a sickening feeling that I was right deep in my stomach. "Do your parents still hate each other?"
"As far as I know," he said, shrugging. That shrug seemed to tell me that he hadn't seen them for a hundred years or so though. "Why?"
"Because I think the guy that Kev is looking for is you," I said, and he stared at me blankly for a bit. It was Kev who acted next. He tugged on my shirt and I looked down at him.
"You saying that you think he's my oniisan?" he asked. I nodded, and he looked at Ian carefully. I could feel his energies searching, and I was shocked to see how similar his were to Ian's. Then his face lit up, and he went to hug Ian, who stared at him, still pretty shocked. "Oniisan!"
"You sure about this Ana?" Ian asked. "I don't think my parents would ever get back together, even if they didn't hate each other."
"He looks like a mini you," I said. "And…" I trailed off, almost having said something in front of Bet. He must have guessed what I was going to say though, because he focused briefly and then he nodded ruefully.
"I guess you're right," he said.
"Wait a minute," Bet said, looking very confused. "The big brother Kev was looking for is you Ian?"
"I guess so," Ian said. "Though I thought my parents would never get back together. Hey, I know how I can be sure!"
He pulled out his wallet and looked through it briefly. I knew that he wasn't really looking for anything, but he had to make Bet think he was. Then, he pulled out a picture, of his parents. He held it down for Kev to look at.
"Kev, are these your parents?" he asked. Kev nodded gravely, and Ian put the picture back in his wallet, where it disappeared back into the nothing that it was before. "I guess that settles it."
"Yay!" Kev exclaimed happily. Ian didn't look quite so happy.
"Mother is going to hear about this," he whispered into my mind.
"Kev said something about them having something to do now," I replied. "But it really wasn't fair of them to saddle you with him, especially since you didn't even know about him."
"Oneesan?" Kev asked, tugging on my sleeve. "Are you my oniisan's girlfriend?"
"Uhhh," I said hesitantly, but I couldn't bring myself to say it. Kev took that as a yes.
"Yay, I get an oneesan too!" he exclaimed happily. Bet looked to me in confusion, but she didn't get my eyes, because I was looking at the floor, embarrassed and blushing quite furiously.
"Kev, why don't you come with me so I can talk to you a little?" Ian said, taking Kev's hand firmly. He added to me silently, "I'll come by your room later after I get him dealt with. I want to talk with you, but he's going to be a pain…"
"Sure," I replied. "I'm going to have some explaining to do to Bet anyway."
