something interesting:
When Kelly started college she was only seventeen years old. She made Tristan go clothes shopping with her on her eighteenth birthday. He was quite surprised.

Kelly is only a she if you pay attention to her soul and not her body. Her body is that of a male, and it will never be anything other than that because of who and what she is. Unfortunately, she and her twin brother had their souls switched at birth, so she's now stuck as a guy. Of course, unless she was naked or close to it, you'd never be able to tell.

Kelly and her twin, Luce (short for Lucifer) are the co-heirs to a kingdom that I have not quite named yet. It is magical, and on a slight different plane of existance. The tradition there is that there are always fraternal twins, boy and girl, born to the queen, who is a twin herself. The female has healing powers and empathy, and the male has creative powers (conjuration essentially) and telepathy. Together they rule, and the female carries on the line by marrying and having her own twins.

Because of the princess's extensive healing powers, the plan when the current queen was pregnant was to kidnap her daughter as soon as a little girl was born. They did this by "accidentally" putting the poor woman under during her c-section and taking the girl, then telling her that the child had been stillborn. Unfortunately for them, Kelly and Luce had their souls switched (possibly subconsciously by their mother), so they ended up getting the boy, with the boy's powers, in a little girl baby's body. They weren't pleased when they found this out.

As for Kelly...the queen kinda snapped when she was told that her daughter was dead. She really wanted a daughter, and she wasn't about to take the fact that she was left with just a boy baby as a booby prize. Instead, she declared that the boy had died, and that the child she had was her daughter, Kelly. And thus Kelly got raised as a girl, and she never knew that she wasn't actually a girl until later.

She figured it out in fifth grade, when they had sex ed in class. When the teacher started explaining how boys have penises and girls have vaginas, Kelly got quite confused. After all, she was a girl, but she had a penis. She asked her mother about it first (only her mother because her father died before she and Luce were born), but she didn't get anything that satisfied her curiosity, just an "Of course you're a girl, sweetie." So she went to her teacher, told the woman about what she had, and promptly got taken away from her mother, because her mother was clearly not capable of raising a child.

After that, she spent eight years as a ward of the state, being sent to different psychiatrists so that they could try to undo the damage that her mother did by making her believe she was female for ten years. She was forced to live as a male during that time, and she hated it more than anything else in the world.

During the same time, she started to discover her powers. They came forward about when she hit puberty, which did not make her life any easier. Luckily, she found a friendly person who was willing to teach her to control her healing and empathy, and who wasn't about to tell her guardians about it. It is thanks to that kind old man that Kelly isn't just as insane as Tristan, if not worse.

When she turned eighteen, Kelly finally got freedom to live her own life. She had decided at age thirteen that she preferred being a girl to being a boy, even though she'd only been forced to live as a male for three years at the time. Over the next five years, she saved up money for when she turned eighteen. On that day, she went shopping and bought half a wardrobe worth of female clothing, mostly dresses and skirts, and things to wear with the dresses and skirts. She dragged Tristan, who she had met just a few months earlier and who was her only friend at the time, along with her.

She loves Tristan, and he returns her feelings. Neither one considers him/herself gay, even though technically they are two males who love each other. Kelly considers herself a female, despite the fact that she has a penis, and it is normal for females to be attracted to males. Tristan, on the other hand, feels that he cannot consider himself homosexual, because the only male person he is attracted to is Kelly, and he wouldn't be attracted to her if her soul weren't that of a female. At the most, he will call himself bendy straight (in other words, straight with bi tendencies) or "kellysexual."

Kelly is not fond of her brother, the one who has the body she should have gotten. Luce is not a bad person, and it wasn't Luce's fault that they were switched, but Kelly cannot help but be resentful of her twin who doesn't appreciate the fine female body that he is in possession of. It doesn't help that Luce is less than fond of Kelly, and that Luce has absolutely no interest in switching places with Kelly, since he is also attracted to males, but not the gay ones who would be interested in him were he in his proper form.

Kelly is in general a very nice person. She has been hurt before, so she tends to be wary of those she isn't familiar with, but once she gets to know someone, she is a very good friend. She is quite loyal to those she cares about, even Luce and her mother, the two who screwed her life up so royally, and she will fight to protect those she loves, even though that has negative effects on her.

She also loves singing more than anything else in the world. She has a rather high voice for a male, which made it all the better when she finally got the freedom to act female again and she wanted to be allowed to sing as a woman, not a man. She is in school for a music degree, and she someday hopes to be a performer. She doesn't really care what kind of music, since she is fascinated with almost all forms of music and would be comfortable performing in anything from rock to latin masses.

Because of her "psychological instability," she has had a single room in her dorm since her freshman year. This was only made more certain when she started wearing dresses. She also happens to be quite good at hiding the fact that she is physically male, despite her lack of practice during the eight years she spent living as one.
