Long, wavy blonde hair and violet eyes. Short and slender... Fairly girly looking...enough that people mistake me for my mother. ^_^; Oh yeah, and a huge-ass pair of white wings, since I'm aivan.

where (and when) do you live?

I live in what used to be the Central Chapel, which stands in the middle of the capital city of Merick (which is the entire continent on which we live...I hear it used to be called North and South America and was two separate continents). As for when, it's the year 18 AS (which stands for After Shelon...in honor of my mother, joy), which corresponds to 2036 NE (New Era) and 4038 AD.

what is your favorite...

season?

Winter, because it's Mom's least favorite.

food?

Anything edible that doesn't taste bad.

animal?

*shrugs* Don't get to see many of them, living in the middle of the city. I've always had a sort of affinity to birds, though. They like me, I like them. I think it has something to do with the wings.

color?

Black, it's very simple and elegant. (Though I look horrid in it, it makes me look too pale.)

time of day?

Between midnight and dawn, when everyone else is very much asleep.

weapon?

I've always thought swords looked cool. Couldn't use one to save my life, though.

tell us about...

your place of birth

I was born and raised in the same place that I live right now, the former Central Chapel (which is now a boarding school, and the home for our family). It's okay...I guess, except that everyone knows who I am here, whether they know me or not.

your childhood

As weird as it may seem when you consider that my entire family is famous, I was the overlooked one. Mom is just the most important person in Merick government. Dad is a powerful mayin. Hope is one of the few female mayins out there. And Deran is a fucking genius. Which leaves me, the only non-mayin in the family...not as brilliant as Deran, and just overall nowhere near as impressive as anyone else. I was either ignored (by the people who care more about mayin-ness than anything else) or hated (by the people who didn't like Mom's changes) when I was little. Of course, it didn't help that I insisted on being different, either.

your parents

Mom and Dad are famous. Mom is more famous, but they're still both famous.
Mom is The Shelon (even though technically she's a she-mayin, not a shelon), as in the one that AS (After Shelon) stands for. She only took over the government of Merick when she was eighteen and completley reformed it. She's also the first female mayin ever (as far as we know, there could have been others before her who hid it their entire lives). So yeah, she's pretty famous...
Dad isn't quite as famous, since he's a normal male mayin and all. But he does have all of the possible mayin gifts, and more, and he's super smart, like Mom. He's a high ranked priest and one of the better teachers in the country now. He's also a hell of a lot easier to get along with than Mom, because he doesn't have her temper.

your siblings

Hope, my older sister, is the first female priest ever. There are other female mayins, particularly Mom, but none of them decided to get invested. Hope, however, is completely and utterly dedicated to Mayinism. She's nice, but I think she's crazy.
And Deran, my identical twin, is proof that our sub-races aren't genetic. Otherwise, Deran and I would either both be aivan or both be mayin. But, I have wings and he has telekinesis. And we're like night and day. He's focused, dedicated, and logical enough to make a person sick. He's also a genius. (He somehow manages to look almost exactly like Dad, too, despite the fact that we have the same face and coloring.)

As I said earlier, the Central Chapel is okay... I'd kinda like to leave, though.

your favorite "hang out"

I just like to get away from home. There's this really cool club in the middle of the bad section of the city that I like to go to. The people there aren't all obsessive with rank and Mayinism and stuff, which is cool, and they don't think I'm depraved just 'cause I don't go for girls.

can you read?

Of course I can. Even the least educated people know how to read, so Mom would never forgive me if I were illiterate.

Technically, yeah, but if you mean "can you write stories?" no...that's not my cup of tea.

Yeah, though not as well as my friend Kiya (not to be confused with my mother Kiya, who my friend was named after). Of course, she's from a family of musicians.

Not really.

I'm more fluent than your average native speaker of Common (my native language). And I know random words in Japanese that I learned from "Aunt" Kiri over the years.

Nothing. Mom would have a fit if I ever needed to know how to use a weapon, and because I don't, she won't let me learn just for the hell of it.

are you good at keeping secrets about yourself?

Yeah, as much as I can. It's kinda hard when everyone's watching you, though.

I like guys...My uncle knows that because I told him, and Kiya has a pretty good idea, but no one else knows, especially Mom.

*shrugs* That I'm more or less worthless compared to the rest of my family? Oh wait...that was never a secret.

Yeah, especially since Aunt Kiri taught me how to guard my thoughts against mayin mindspeakers.

Can't think of anything particularly important off the top of my head.

I kinda let slip to Mom that Uncle Pernist and I got together every now and then...so that's kinda a secret of his (as well as mine). I regret that just because Mom still hasn't forgiven me for that. ^_^;

I won't say Uncle Pernist, since that idea is more than a little disgusting...but I would like someone like him, in looks. Personality-wise, I think someone like either my friend Kiya (happy, kind, and completley blind when it comes to things like social status and popular opinion) or someone like Zen...'cause he's an interesting person, when he's not being bitter and depressing.

what's the worst thing that's ever happened to you?

*shrugs* Despite the less than perfect childhood, nothing terribly bad has ever happened to me. So...maybe Mom finding about me meeting Uncle Pernist. I got grounded to school and the top floors of the building for a week, and I wasn't allowed to leave the building for a month after that.

what's the best thing that's ever happened to you?

...I dunno...meeting Uncle Pernist for the first time. He's a bit of an ass if you're not careful, but he also understands quite a bit of what I went through when I was little.

It's a tie between Kiya and Zen, though Zen would never agree with me on that particular count.

do you have any scars?

Yeah, from an accident where I slammed into a tree while trying to teach myself some fancy flying techniques. It's on my left thigh, 'cause after I hit the tree, I plummeted to the ground, and kinda slashed my thigh open on a particularly sturdy branch on the way down.

do you have any piercings?

As many as I can get away with without getting banned from Mom's presence forever. Which basically means lots in the ears, and a ring in my right eyebrow, and that's it. I want one in my belly button...but that will have to wait until some time when I don't live at home and thus Mom won't find out.

do you have any tattoos?

Nope, I would probably be kicked out of the house by both parents if I did that.

do you have any other markings?

Not really.

do you wear any jewelery?

Lots of earrings, always have a necklace on. Don't particularly like bracelets.

have you ever broken any bones?

Yeah, more than once. The most memorable would probably be both my right arm and leg from the same accident where I got the scar on my left leg.

Sorta...I haven't killed anyone yet, but I wouldn't want to eat my food every day.

if you could change your name to anything you wanted, what would you change it to?

*shrugs* I'm not particularly fond of my name, but just because of its meaning. I mean, I'm not very sensible...and that's what Vanni means. But I can't think of any names that I would want.

Nothing very impressive.

do you believe in a higher power?

Nope, to the astonishment and disdain of pretty much every other person I know, except for maybe my family and Aunt Kiri.

do you belong to a formal religion?

Technically, I believe more or less everyone born in Merick belongs to Mayinism, unless they specifically state otherwise. I've been contemplating divorcing myself permanently for a while, but I think I'll be forced to wait at least until I hit adulthood.

do you have any religious rituals?

None that I actually participate in.

do your people have any sort of coming of age ritual?

Age 17 is when you're considered an adult. Mayins get invested into the priesthood at that age, but otherwise it's just another birthday.

Nope.

I guess since I don't have a lover or anything like that, I'll answer these about Kiya, since she's the closest thing I have to a best friend.

Pretty much all our lives. She's about half a year older than Deran and I. And since Mom, Dad, and her mom were really close friends way back when, we more or less grew up together.

what do you like to do together?

Talk, enjoy music, just plain hang out...

what do you do to make your best friend happy?

I'm just me. She likes people in general, the more interesting the better. And since I'm deliberately different from other people, that makes me more interesting.

what do you do even though it upsets your best friend?

*shrugs* It's hard to tell what upsets Kiya most of the time, and it changes from day to day, though it's never anything drastic.

if someone was going to meet your best friend for the first time, what one thing would they need to know?

She is not the Kiya (that's my Mom). She's just the daughter of one of the Kiya's best friends, and is named after her. That, and she's not as immature as she looks.

She doesn't care who or what you are. Shelon, mayin, she-, homosexual, bisexual, bigoted, noble, dirt poor...none of those things will make you less or more of a person in her eyes.

It's a tie between my wings and my friends. I hate being alone, but I would probably go crazy if I couldn't fly.

Christmas is fun. I hear it used to be a religious holiday...but that was back before the Apocalypse. Now it's just fun. ^_^ Does that count as a winter solstice type holiday?

Hope kinda spoiled the mystery of Santa for me when I was two. She had just figured out that one of her friends' mom was Santa with her mindspeaking, and she blabbed it to everyone she met. It didn't bother Deran, who was already skeptical even at that age, but I was devestated, until Mom assured me that it didn't mean I would stop getting the presents.

Nope, I have a couple that have shown up more than once, but none that show up all the time or anything like that.

what is your comfort food?

Marshmallows, the little multi-colored flavored ones that apparently have been around for over two thousand years and haven't changed all that much in that whole time. ^_^

When I need it, and you don't need to know when that is.

what textures do you like least?

Anything that feels like the bark of a tree, because I will probably never be able to forget the feeling of scraping far too many layers of skin off of my face while sliding down the trunk of a tree after colliding with it in mid-air. That hurt like a bitch.

which textures make you most want to reach out and touch?

Hair and feathers. Feathers because I really, really like wings (and not just my own), and hair because it feels cool, when clean.

what scent do you like most?

I like the smell of washed sheets, because that reminds me of sleeping, particularly burying myself in the covers and not emerging until I'm good and ready. I like that feeling.

what scent do you like least?

Blood, because it gives me flying accident flashbacks.

are you vain?

I wouldn't call myself vain... I'm just rather proud of my appearance.

Important, very important.

Yes. We have eyes for a reason, and looking at nice things is one of them, so I like to notice whether people look nice or not. Unfortunatley, I see more nots than nices.

Tight black leather pants with lots of buckles that I have carefully kept away from Mom's attention (since she would confiscate them the moment she saw them...Uncle Pernist gave them to me ^_^), black boots. Shirt varies, but I have a shiny one that matches my eyes that I'm quite fond of. It's a button down long sleeved shirt, so I can even wear it to school (as long as Mom doesn't catch me in it before I leave our floors of the building).

describe your mate's (best friend, etc) favourite outfit if they were to choose it.

Kiya likes loose, comfortable clothing. If she could get away with it, she would wear pajama pants and t-shirts to class (she's tried, but she got sent right back home to go change into something that conformed to the uniform code).

I like to see Kiya happy and she doesn't look bad in her choices of clothing, so whatever she wants to wear. ^_^

where do you sleep?

In my bed, in my room, on the second highest floor of the Chapel/school that I live in, preferably buried as far under the covers as I can get. Or on the roof of the building. ^_^

when do you sleep (time of day)?

In reality? During the night, so that I can wake up in time for school in the morning.

how many hours a day of sleep do you need?

7 or so, depends on what I've been doing, and how much excitement I have to look forward to the next day (the more excitement, the less sleep I can get by on without crashing).

what's your favourite position to sleep in?

Buried under the covers curled up around my stuffed cat that you still will not mention to anyone else.

what do you wear to sleep?

Loose drawstring pants of various shades and colors, and that's it, even during the winter. Covers, not clothing, provide warmth.

As many as I can smuggle into my room, until I start overheating at night.

*shrugs* I just kinda live.

They think that I'm the worthless one of my family, the one who's known to be troublesome and non-conformist, because that's what they've heard and they already know who I am usually.

Very few people actually bother to get to know me better. Those who do, though, find out that I'm just as non-conformist as the rumors say, but that I'm not really as worthless as those same rumors would suggest.

Not much. I think there's still a smear of dried blood on a few trees in the middle of the aivan flying practice grounds, though... Does that count?

The first time I wandered into that club in the city and was greeted by a bunch of people who didn't care that I wasn't old enough to drink, or drive, or even be out that late at night (stupid curfews...). I was almost fourteen at that time.

do you nap frequently? where is your favorite place to do so?

Naps on the roof of the Chapel are a great way to pass time, especially when I manage to make it out of class and up there. And I don't particularly feel the need for class most of the time, so naps end up being pretty frequent.

are you lazy, or active? somewhere in between?

I vary from one extreme to the other depending on my mood. When I don't feel like doing anything, you couldn't get me to move if my life depended on it, but when I'm hyper you would have to shoot me up with tranks to get me to stop.

I'm not really into movies. All of the ones that come out now are more or less the same, and it's boring after you've seen one and you realize that the next one, with a different name and characters who are SLIGHTLY different, is more or less exactly the same.

Thunderstorm, because lightning is sexy.

have you ever been so tired you fell asleep sitting or standing? What circumstances led to this?

Yeah, after staying out all night (I didn't want to go back home in the wee hours of the morning because I didn't particularly feel like explaining to the curfew officers why I wasn't already at home and then getting lectured by Mom for making our family look bad), I ended up falling asleep during the morning ceremonies and falling over in the middle of the crowd. That was more than a little mortifying.
