questionnaire #1: the basics

your name

Nonay, at least that's what I call myself. The monks at the orphanage call me Katherine, which I hate, and this locket that I found that I think belongs to me from before seems to indicate that my name is Micah. But I'm happy with Nonay.

your age

Somewhere around fifteen or so...can't really be sure since I'm not sure exactly how old I was when I woke up on the streets of Aligon.

describe yourself

I don't know... I'm kinda short and have an average build, if a little skinny because I don't eat a whole lot. I've been told I often look more like a boy than a girl at first glance, despite the fact that I do have all the right parts to be female (probably why Kyle likes me...). My hair is light brown and wavy, and it used to be long, but I hate having long hair, so it's short now. And probably the weirdest thing about me are my eyes, which are purple, lavender really.

describe your mate (if applicable)

Kyle, he's...different. He's taller than I am, but not by much, which makes him really short for a guy, and he's pretty girly at times. He's prettier than I am at times (not that that's all that hard), but that's mostly because he cares about those kind of things more than I do. He's got shoulder length strawberry blonde hair that is a lot of fun to play with, and that rarely stays put in anything he tries to hold it back with, and bright blue eyes. And he's hyper.

where (and when) do you live?

I live in a sort of orphanage/magic training place run by a bunch of strange monks in the city of Aligon. I would say what world I live on, except that I've never been told of any sort of naming convention for them... I tend to just think of my world as "my world." As for when I live, I'm not really sure how to answer that question. Kyle and Akito claim that it's the beginning of the twenty-first century, but I think that might only apply to their world, and we all know that their world is pretty screwed up.

what's your favourite sweet?

I don't really get the chance to eat sweets all that often. They're usually a luxury that the orphanage can't afford, and the money of my own that I have gets spent on other, less indulgent things. But, when I was on his world, Akito gave me something he calls Pocky, and I liked that quite a bit.

what is your favorite...

season?

Anything but winter. Even winter in Aligon, which is nothing compared to other places, is way too cold. I don't like being cold.

food?

Anything that tastes good. I'm not really all that picky...

animal?

I've always had this fascination with horses, as long as they're not trying to trample me. And some of the animals that Kyle's told me about seemed pretty cool.

color?

Well, I don't really have a favorite color, just like I don't really have any colors that I don't like. But, I identify myself with lavender, since that's the color of my aura, and so I guess that would be the closest thing I have to a favorite color...

time of day?

I like noontime. I'm usually feeling completely awake by then, but it's not late yet either.

weapon?

My wizard's staff, but not as an actual wizard's staff. I tend to bash people over the head with it.

tell us about...

your place of birth

I don't remember anything before I was somewhere around 12 years old, and that includes my place of birth. All I know is that Dryyen was there once, since that is where he found me the first time. I didn't really get much information out of him about it, though. Probably because he was too busy trying to kill me.

your childhood

Same answer as my place of birth. Don't remember anything before 12, and by that point, I felt more like an adult than a kid.

your parents

All I know about them is what they look like, and even that is a guess. They look way too young to be my parents in that picture, though.
I guess the person who feels most like a parent to me, though, is Father Betral. He's very kind, and was willing to take me in, despite the fact that I was a lot older than the monks like to start teaching magic when he found me.

your siblings

As far as I know, I don't have any of those...except for the others at the orphanage, and then Jer's little "gang." They tend to get annoying, but I care about them all a lot, and I always feel like I need to protect them.

your (current) home

I like where I am...for the most part. I kinda wish that the monks weren't quite so strict, but it's better than living on the streets and having to fend for myself. And it's been much better since I discovered my magic.

your favorite "hang out"

Don't really have one, other than Jer's home. His place was always like a home away from "home" to me, but I haven't been spending too much time there recently. He doesn't really like Kyle, and I think he still blames me a little for getting his little brothers and sisters involved when Dryyen decided to go after me.

can you read?

Father Betral would never forgive me if I couldn't. Besides, everyone at the orphanage is taught to read, either with or before the magic lessons, so if I hadn't already known when I arrived there, I would have been learned it.

Same with the reading thing. Those monks are big on literacy.

Not well.

can you play an instrument?

Other than banging on pots and pans, which gets me yelled at by the cook, no.

what languages do you speak?

Just this one, that Kyle calls English. Father Betral and some of the others have been trying to teach me the language of some of our neighboring kingdoms, but I just don't get it.

what weapons can you use?

Well, I could probably attempt to use anything that I could actually lift...but if you mean things that I would actually be effective using, nothing really. I try to hit people with my staff, but my aim isn't always the best.

Haven't had too many chances to find out... I'm not all that secretive a person.

Ummmm...I've had some strange dreams that I haven't told anyone about?

Unless things go really weird, I plan on losing my virginity to Kyle, if we ever decide to go that far. Right now we're happy without the sex.

what's the worst thing that's ever happened to you?

Well, out of what I remember, probably running into Dryyen in that abandoned building that one day, since my life would have been so much bloody easier if he'd never tried to get my Traveling power (a second time).

Again, from what I remember, accidentally getting pulled along with Akito to his world, because I met Kyle there. ^_^

who is your worst enemy?

Well, Dryyen was while he was alive...but he's dead now. So, I guess that would be the always annoying Tevald, who isn't really much of an enemy...

Well, Kyle doesn't count here, I don't think. So Jer, even though he's been pissed off at me recently.

Only ever had one kiss...and I didn't think it was all that bad, just a little weird.

As I said, I've only ever had one kiss. It was with Kyle, but he was still wearing my shape at the time, so it was kind like kissing myself, very weird.

what time do you wake/get up?

Whenever someone else drags me out of bed, or mid to late morning if they leave me alone.

Wake Kyle up, since if I have to be awake, so does he.

Not really, but I'm nowhere near as bad as some people I know.

Wake up, dress, eat breakfast, try to avoid whichever monk is trying to force more magic into my head that day...nothing really special.

Only had it once, when Akito said it was good for waking up. I hated it, and am trying to avoid ever drinking it again.

Just a little white mark on my arm that looks like it used to be a scab that got picked at too many times. Not sure when/how I got it, since it was there since before I can remember.

what is your favourite mode of transportation?

Walking. As much as I like horses, they don't really like me all that much, so I can't ride, and carts are bloody uncomfortable. As for the screwed up stuff I experienced on Akito's world, like cars...*shudders*
Traveling (with my magic) is nice too, but it takes too much out of me.

Well enough, though I would prefer not having to eat my own cooking all the time.

No, not really. Of course, they're not small either.

I would get rid of the Katherine the people at the orphanage use and just use Nonay all the time. I like Nonay.

do you believe in a higher power?

Yeah, I believe in the Powers that Be...pretty stupid not to, since I've been told that I'm working for them, whether I know it or not. But I don't worship them.

No, and I continue to resist the monks' desire to convert me to theirs.

No, unless you count the meditation that I use to get at more complicated magics to be one. And since that's not really religious, I wouldn't.

Not really.

how long have you been together?

About six months, maybe a little more than that.

what do you like to do together?

We just like to be together, but otherwise, pretty much everything right now. I think that may wear off a little in the future, though, since he and I don't like all the same things.

I exist. Well, that and I let Father Betral try to teach me more things that I will probably never understand. Kyle seems to think that I need to know things like how to read the menu in the neighboring kingdom, even though I have no intention of ever going there.

I insist on calling his former love (crush actually), Akito, a girly boy, because he is. He's even more bitchy than most women I know.

He's older than he looks, more serious than he looks, and he is not just a hyper ball of hair, even if that's all you see when he enters the room sometimes.

what's your absolutely favourite thing about your best friend?

To be completely honest, I love his hair. It was the first thing I ever noticed about him (partially because that was all I could actually distinguish at the time), and it continues to be my favorite... That, and he's warm. It's always nice to have a warm body to snuggle up to.

I'm happy where I am, and I CERTAINLY don't want to go visit the neighboring kingdom, no matter how much Kyle says I should. I guess if I had to choose somewhere other than Aligon, I'd say my parents' world, just to see what it's like.

Remember anything before waking up on the streets of Aligon, even when one of the monks with very deep and effective mind magic tried to pry it out of me, with permission.

How to keep the monks from trying to force more magic on me...particularly how to keep Tevald away.

I don't know...there are lots of things that I want to do, but just haven't for one reason or another.

Trying to Travel without going off world and not knowing what I was doing, and thus screwing it up. That didn't actually hurt PHYSICALLY, but I think I bruised my mind.

We celebrate the solstice itself with a festival and (small)presents. Kyle says it's a lot like what he calls Christmas, but without the tree and Santa Claus. I had him explain Santa to me once...sounds bloody weird.
